Underwater (Under Saline) Endoluminal Surgery

There is an emerging trend occurring in the Endoluminal Surgery space towards an underwater (or under saline) approach to endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR) and endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD). There are challenges and barriers to utilizing this technique and the current endoscopic tools are not designed with the purpose-built intent of being used under saline. If those barriers could be overcome, the technique could be more widely adopted and successful tissue resection and defect closure could be achieved. This project is focused on understanding the differences between current clinical procedure workflows and the emerging trend of under saline. In addition to mapping the clinical workflow, the project will develop purpose-built solutions which could overcome any barriers to adoption and taking into account design considerations for operating in this updated environment.
