Leather Part Counter
Faculty Advisor: Daniel J. Sambor
Sponsor: New Balance
New Balance’s owned MADE athletic footwear factories in New England have operations that require the tracking and counting of components, including leather. Leather is a natural material that has variations, blemishes, and defects. New Balance manufacturing associates are highly trained and inspect the material as they are cutting. This process requires the associates to be focused yet flexible about the cutting order and location as well as count the cut parts. The SCOPE team will aim to find a practical engineering solution to better track the leather cutting operations that fits seamlessly into the manufacturing process and drives efficiency and quality results for the value stream’s operations.
