Mathematical Modeling of Braided Gastrointestinal Stents
Accurate mathematical models are an integral part of making decisions related to product development. Use of models ultimately helps engineers design increasingly relevant and high performing products more quickly in order to revolutionize patient care. The 2015-2016 Boston Scientific SCOPE team’s goal was to create and verify a mathematical model that could be used to accurately predict behavior and performance of a braided gastrointestinal stent of a variety of materials and designs based on empirically obtained input values. The final deliverable included the model, an explanation of the inputs that the model required, and descriptions of the benchtop tests required to obtain input values for the model.
