Improving Transportation Safety Through Data-driven Technologies

The Santos Family Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving transportation safety. In the third year of the SCOPE partnership, the team seeks to create open-platform tools that extract data about traffic intersections to support traffic engineers and advocacy groups who have direct impact on infrastructure changes. The first opportunity is to deliver safety data about the interactions of vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists at intersections through video analysis. The second opportunity is to aggregate existing data sources into a unified system for analyzing traffic data. The intent is to provide interested parties with all the data that could be gathered by human observers on a continuous basis, without the cost involved in deploying personnel.
