Right to Know

The Olin College EH&S department is dedicated to developing and maintaining a safe working environment.  The OSHA Hazard Communication Standard (29CFR1910.1200) or “Right to Know” requires employers to develop and implement a program which communicates chemical hazards and protects employees from the hazards.

The EH&S department has drafted the Olin College Hazard Communication Plan to establish safe work practices to protect employees and staff from hazardous chemicals outside of the laboratory. For information regarding chemical hazards and safety procedures in Olin's laboratories, refer to Olin's Chemical Hygiene Plan.

Each employee and student working around or with hazardous chemicals is responsible to review these plans as they are applicable to them.  The EH&S department also trains each employee and student on safe working practices.  Please contact the Safety and Compliance Specialist to arrange training.

HMIS Hazardous Material Identification System (HMIS) labels are in for labeling foreign and/or secondary containers. Remember that every bottle in the laboratories must have a label with the hazardous materials listed.  Please use the HMIS labels for foreign and/or secondary containers. The labels are in the laboratories or contact The EH&S Office for labels or information regarding labeling.
