Family Weekend is one of our favorite weekends on campus where we invite families of our students to celebrate all of their accomplishments and experience life at Olin.

FRIDAY October 12


12 - 5 pm


Lobby, Milas Hall

Visit the Milas Hall Lobby to pick up your registration packet & schedule and snack. All of your weekend questions can be answered at the registration desk. Make sure to check out what’s for sale in the Olin Gear Shop in Milas Hall 315 between 12 and 4pm.

Study Away Resources… for Parents!

Come by and meet the Study Away team for  answers about Study Away at Olin and resources for parents of students who are thinking about or planning to study away.

Meet and Greet with Faculty and Staff

Library, Milas Hall

Join faculty and staff in the Library as you get to know one another. Snacks and baked goods made with love by students will be provided as well as some coffee and tea to get refueled.

2:30 - 3:30 pm

Design 101 for Families

Crescent Room (2nd floor), Campus Center

Explore the Olin curriculum through this activity handpicked from a first-year course called Design Nature. There is no better way to learn about "the Olin way" than to experience it first-hand. In this session, Olin students will facilitate a hands-on building project where you will make Hopper creations inspired by nature. Come ready to design, experiment, fail and iterate!

Student Showcase and Demos

Academic Center and Oval

Olin students don't just learn -- they engineer impressive projects! See the results of their hard work for yourselves through a showcase of awesome creations, including vehicles, projects and more.

Olin Conductorless Orchestra Performance

Mezzanine (2nd floor), Milas Hall

Enjoy a special musical performance by Olin's very own Conductorless Orchestra.

5:00 – 7:00 pm

Olin Family Welcome Dinner

Dining Hall, Campus Center

Savor the moment to reunite with fellow Olin family members as we welcome everyone to campus during this family dinner. This complimentary meal will also include wine and beer for those 21+ (I.D. required). (meal tickets provided)

7:15 - 8:00 pm

Art with Heart Show

Norden Auditorium, Library and Lobby, Milas Hall

Art with Heart is a philanthropic club focused on both fostering involvement in the arts and supporting projects that help the world. Make sure you catch their show, featuring a variety of art pieces as well as both individual and group student performances. Dessert and other refreshments will be available.

Fire Arts Performance

Great Lawn

Witness this unique display of student talent and passion for fire performance by the Olin Fire Arts Club (OFAC). Using different tools and alternating movements, these artists will take turns twirling and spinning fire to create beautiful red and orange patterns for your entertainment.

President Miller will share updates and goals, with a Q&A session to follow. A complimentary continental breakfast will be provided in the Norden Auditorium Gallery beginning at 9:30 am.

What to Expect vs. What You are Expecting

Hear from our Dean of Student Affairs Rae-Anne Butera as she provides an overview of the office and presents on what to expect as your student(s) transition through their college careers.

Jobs, Grad School and Building the Olin Network

Director of Post-Graduate Planning (PGP) Sally Phelps will let you know how her team has been preparing students for the internship/job search, as well as having conversations and conducting seminars on graduate school, research and fellowships.

Explore the Area, Dinner on Your Own


Take advantage of this great opportunity to explore the area on your own. A helpful guide complete with area museums, shops, restaurants and other "hot spots" in the Greater Boston Area Guide section of the 2018-19 Parent Handbook (available on our website). Should you be back on campus, you are welcome to have dinner in the Dining Hall. (This is a pay-at-the-door cost for parents and guests; students will be included in their meal plan.)
