The Department of Public Safety provides law enforcement, security, and emergency services to the Olin and Babson College communities 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The Department of Public Safety consists of 20 sworn police officers and 7 civilian employees. The Department oversees the handling of emergency medical responses, medical escort services, fire safety and detection, crime prevention, safety escorts, and parking enforcement.

Officers will investigate all complaints and violations of Massachusetts State law or Olin College policy which may result in the filing of criminal charges through the State Judicial System and/or complaints referred to the Office of Student Life and the Olin College Honor Board. In certain cases, investigations are carried out in conjunction with local, state, or federal law enforcement agencies.

The Department provides a wide range of services designed to inform students and employees about ways to increase security on campus: release of a police log to the campus newspaper, bicycle patrol, articles on crime prevention, Campus Watch program, presentations during Orientation, and a safety escort program.

Members of the Department of Public Safety check exterior doors on a random basis. Exterior residence hall doors are locked 24 hours a day. Classroom and administrative buildings are secured at the conclusion of normally scheduled business hours. These hours may vary given the events scheduled for each building or campus site.

The College community can contact the Department of Public Safety at 781-239-5555 or Public Safety. Further information is available at the Public Safety Website.

Olin's Emergency Alert System

Olin EAS is Olin’s Emergency Alert System, which sends rapid alerts and instructions to all members of the Olin College community in the event of an emergency.

Through this system, the College is able to deliver emergency notices simultaneously via voicemail, text-messaging and email to the entire student, faculty and staff population within minutes.

The effectiveness of this system depends upon individuals providing up-to-date personal contact information. We ask you to partner with the College in registering your cell phone number, as well as other emergency contact information, so that College officials can communicate with you wherever you happen to be in the case of a campus-wide emergency.

The new system augments existing emergency communications tools long used by the college, including web postings, e-mail and automated message line, but will take advantage of new technologies to support a fully integrated and coordinated emergency communications program.

How you can participate Providing current information is the best way to ensure that you will be reached in the event of an emergency. Please take a few minutes now to register or update your contact information. All information is secure and confidential.

If you haven't done so already, please:

Log in to the system by clicking on the following link: Olin EAS Self-Registration Portal.

NEW USERS: once you are on the site, please complete the registration steps found in the attached FAQ document.

Campus Safety and Security Survey

The Olin/Babson College Public Safety Department is committed to assisting all members of the Olin/Babson community in maintaining the campuses as a safe and pleasant place in which to work, live and study. However, a truly safe campus can only be achieved through the cooperation of all students, faculty and staff.

Olin College's annual Campus Safety, Security and Fire Safety Report includes statistics for the previous three years concerning reported crimes that occurred on campus and on public property within, or immediately adjacent to and accessible from Olin College. The report also includes information and provides statistics regarding fire safety and outlines campus security and personal safety topics such as crime prevention, security awareness, reporting crimes, workplace threats and violence, sexual assault and rape prevention, missing person protocols, emergency response and evacuation procedures, drug and alcohol polices and other issues related to safety and security on campus.

The information in the report is provided as part of Olin College's commitment to campus safety and security, and to meet compliance standards set forth in the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act.
