Olin Conductorless Orchestra to Offer Free Public Concert in Needham

The Olin Conductorless Orchestra (OCO), Olin College’s celebrated music ensemble, will offer a free public concert in Needham Saturday, December 16, from 8 – 10 pm. The concert will take place in Powers Hall in Needham Town Hall, 1471 Highland Ave., and is free and open to the public.

The orchestra will perform music by Dvorak, Elgar, Mozart, Schumann and Gold. Solo and duo performances will include music by Beethoven, whose birthday falls on the concert date. The performance will be followed by a reception, where audience members will have chance to meet the performers, who are all students in engineering at Olin College.

“We are very pleased to perform a concert of classical music for residents of Needham and surrounding communities,” said Diana Dabby, director of the music program at Olin College. “The support of the local community has been a crucial factor in the college’s success, and this is our way of giving back and saying thank you.”

The orchestra is the only collegiate music ensemble in the country to perform without a conductor. As a result OCO has adopted a collaborative style of music making that leads to fresh and nuanced interpretations of the classical repertoire that have won acclaim from audiences up and down the East Coast and on social media.
