President Miller Speaks at Business Innovation Factory Summit

At the Business Innovation Factory Summit (BIF) in Providence, Rhode Island, Olin College President Richard K. Miller delivered an eighteen-minute, Ted-style talk called ‘Educating Engineer Innovators,’ which has recently been released on video.

To a capacity audience of 500, Miller elaborated on his journey from the small farming town of Tranquility, California, to discovering engineering and earning degrees at UC-Davis, MIT and the California Institute of Technology. In 1999, Miller became the first employee and President of Olin College of Engineering.

According to its website, the BIF brings together a “community of innovation junkies” from different industries and sectors to tell the stories of “their creative processes, their struggles and where they’re going in the future.”  The sold-out event has been running for ten years.

During his talk, Miller spoke about the relationship between engineering, entrepreneurship and mindset.

The eclectic list of 32 speakers at the 2016 Summit included Brandon Barnett, director of corporate strategy at Intel and Coss Marte, who launched a unique fitness program he developed while in prison.
