Wow, it feels like it’s been a while since I last spoke to you all. Let’s see… since then I officially passed all of my first semester courses, had a very restful winter break, and now I’m back at Olin as a second semester first year! For those of you that may not know me, my name is Mads and I’m from South Florida. I’m studying to be a mechanical engineer and I use she/her/hers or he/him/his pronouns- take your pick, I don’t have a preference.
Candidates’ Weekends are fast approaching, and most of you Candidates are probably feeling a combination of excitement, stress, anticipation, and confusion. Candidates’ Weekends are a little mysterious! There’s not a lot of information about what’s going to happen. I went into Candidates’ Weekend with a lot of jitters, but during exercises and interactions with Oliners and in interviews I allowed myself to simply have fun and be myself.
I know I worried about being good enough and portraying myself in the correct light, but the best advice I can give to you 2019 Candidates is to relax, be genuine, and ask questions. Candidates’ Weekend is as much a learning opportunity for Olin as it is for you! Best of luck on your college journey! We’ll see you soon!
