Olin College of Engineering has been designated a "Best Buy" institution in the 2012 edition of the Fiske Guide to Colleges. Olin is one of 49 such institutions—24 public and 25 private—that fall into this category.
Schools designated a "Best Buy" are considered to offer outstanding academics with relatively moderate prices. All of the Best Buy schools fall into the inexpensive or moderate price category, and have top academics ratings. Olin has five star ratings—the highest—in Academics and Quality of Life.
"For those who have what it takes, Olin College offers a top-notch engineering degree at a bargain price," notes the Guide. "Olin students have watched their school grow up before their eyes and blossom into what they and their faculty members believe is the future model for engineering education in this country—one that stresses interdisciplinary, project-based instruction and the importance of ‘learning to learn.'"
In a related development, Olin is included in a list of the "most interesting and unusual" colleges in the country in a Huffington Post article about the new Fiske Guide.
For more than 25 years, the Fiske Guide to Colleges has served as a resource for parents, counselors and college-bound students looking for an independent perspective on the distinctive qualities of the best and most interesting colleges and universities in the U.S., Canada and Great Britain.
